This jade horse is made of jasper, with brown stains all over its body, traces of soil erosion and wear marks, just like its fur. The surface has a glassy luster. This is a unique patina feature of the Han Dynasty.
The horse's eyes are wide open, slightly protruding outwards, its ears are erect, and its mane is dense and neat, combed from the top of the head to the sides and scattered around the neck. Its long tail is flowing, curled and coiled at the side of the body, and its four hooves are bent under the body. The jade horse has a strong body, strong muscles, and harmonious proportions.
This kind of lying posture looking back has appeared from the Pre-Qin Dynasty to the Ming and Qing Dynasties. The carving of this jade horse is rough. Although the details are depicted, the knife skills are not fine. Although it has the glassy luster unique to Han Dynasty jade, the shape of a horse looking back in the Han Dynasty is rare. Therefore, there are doubts about the dating issue.
