Saker Falcon, also known as "Sea Green" and "Sea Green Falcon", is a hunting bird of prey of the nomadic people in northern my country. It can catch swans, wild ducks, rabbits, roe deer and other animals. It is an important helper in hunting. Legend has it that only one Saker Falcon appears among 100,000 sacred eagles, so it is called the "Eagle God". In the Liao Dynasty, Saker Falcon was used for hunting by the emperor and was regarded as a rare bird. The resulting falcon hunting culture was also very popular in Chifeng at that time.
This white jade gyrfalcon is a round sculpture, made of fine Hetian white jade, with brown patina on its wings and tail. It has a hooked beak, bulging cheeks and bulging eyes, and feathers that are attached to the back of the neck and swing. There is a pair of holes in the middle of the feathers for hanging. The wings are folded on both sides of the body, with the wing tips overlapping the tail feathers in a diving shape. The wings are decorated with fish scales and feather patterns. The tail is spread out, slightly curved, and decorated with parallel feather patterns. There is a pair of claws carved in negative lines on the abdomen, curled up on the chest. All the lines are carved meticulously and meticulously.
