A fine round sculpture of a small dragon with black lacquer
This jade dragon has been stained with a deep brown color, which penetrates deep into the bones and is not visible even when illuminated by light. The surface has a warm patina.
The jade dragon is in a coiled position, clawless, with its head slightly raised, mouth open, serrated teeth, nose upturned and raised, face with three oblique incised lines of wrinkles, eyes with double incised lines of the Chinese character "臣", mushroom horns slightly upturned, and embossed hooks on cheeks. The whole body is decorated with diamond-shaped dragon scales composed of multiple oblique incised lines, with neat, smooth and meticulous lines.
This jade dragon is very small, but the carving is very fine. For ancient craftsmen, the smaller the object, the more difficult it is to carve. The carving of this coiled dragon is so fine, which shows that the craftsman who made it was skilled and took this work very seriously. Ingenuity is rare!
