Sea beast shaped jade weight
Sea beast shaped jade weight
This jade weight is made of green jade, with good quality, sufficient weight, and very heavy. The surface is stained by water, with brown-yellow stains and white alteration marks and crystals.
The shape of the jade town is a sea beast similar to an anglerfish or a whale, with a huge mouth and sawtooth fangs. It has a pair of huge eyes with protruding eyeballs. It has a relief nose that extends all the way to the eyebrows. It has tadpole-like ears on its head. There are relief upward-curling fins on the gills. It has a pair of hind limbs, squatting, with both claws inward, and each hind limb has a fin that curls upward. The tail is short and thick and curled up. The whole body is decorated with double-negative hooks and wavy lines.
There is a pair of trumpet holes on the back of the sea beast's body, which can be used to tie ropes. There is a groove on the back, which can be inserted and fixed with a wedge-shaped object.
Another possibility is that there were protruding fins embedded in the back, so this sea beast could be a shark.
I personally speculate that this jade weight is used to hang on the corners of curtains or gauze curtains to prevent wind and fix them.
This sea beast has an exaggerated shape, is full of imagination and mystery, and reflects people's careful observation and awe of nature at that time.
