Crane-shaped jade weight
Crane-shaped jade weight
This jade crane is dark brown in color, with some rust and black stains.
The crane is looking back, with its long beak resting on its wings as if it is preening its feathers. It is crouching with its legs bent forward and its tail feathers on the same plane as its body. The crane has a long neck, a long beak, and round eyes. Its entire body is decorated with feather lines carved with double intaglio lines. The tail has a double intaglio texture, and the neck has feathers composed of intaglio lines arranged side by side, which seem to be floating.
This work should be in the late Western Zhou Dynasty style, and the style of jade carvings gradually transitioned from abstract to realistic. It not only retains the modeling style of the black bird in the Shang Dynasty, but also has bold innovations in decorative lines, postures, and themes. It is a unique jade carving that is very worthy of collection.
