Two-headed beast jade weight
Two-headed beast jade weight
This jade weight is made of green jade, which is fine, heavy and very comfortable to hold. There are white water marks and orange weathering lines on the surface.
The shape of the jade town is a two-headed beast. One side of the head has the Chinese character "臣" in its eyes, a hooked mouth, and a pair of embossed large ears with cirrus patterns carved in relief. The beast on this side has cirrus-patterned fish gills and fins, and some limbs are in a prone position.
The other side of the animal head has a flat face with ridges in the middle, a pair of huge eyes with protruding eyeballs, and gills or fins with cirrus patterns.
The whole body of the jade beast is decorated with simple and smooth incised lines of rolling clouds and shield patterns.
There is a huge drill hole in the middle of the jade beast. It can be used to hang a thicker rope. Usually the jade weight is used to hang on the corners of curtains or gauze curtains to prevent wind and fix them.
The bizarre two-headed sea monster is full of imagination and mystery, reflecting the reverence people had for the sea and the sea god at that time.
