Inscribed Jade Mask
Inscribed Jade Mask
This mask is made of local jade, with silky weathering patterns on the surface, orange, brown, and white. The mask is polished very smoothly, and feels like smooth baby skin. The mask is curved, with a warrior face carved with double negative lines on the front, with a pair of big eyes and holes in the pupils. The face has a bulbous nose, a square mouth, exposed teeth, and a pair of fangs. There are round earrings on the earlobes. The head is wearing a helmet, decorated with double negative lines and cloud patterns, and the helmet extends to both sides and is carved with hook-shaped decorations. There are holes on both sides of the top of the helmet, which can be used for hanging, or matched with the earring holes, and the pupils are sewn on the armor.
There is a nine-character inscription engraved on the back of the mask.
The carved part of this mask has obvious traces of wire cutting and trumpet-shaped openings, which were the most advanced jade-making techniques at the time.
