A round jade owl with a human head and ox horns with an inscription on the back
This human-headed jade owl is a rare masterpiece. The quality of the jade and the workmanship reflect the highest level of jade carving and artistic standards in the late Shang Dynasty. Its face is typical of the Shang Dynasty, with thick eyebrows, big eyes, a bulbous nose and a small mouth. There are a pair of horns on both sides of the head. There are a pair of holes behind the head, which can be hung or worn. The wings are close together, with a delicate double-negative line carved into a rolling cloud pattern. The chest is decorated with feather-like patterns. There is an inscription on the left and right sides of the back, which should be a name or title. The legs are upright, slightly bent, and decorated with double-negative line rolling cloud patterns. The back of the human foot is hooked upward, symbolizing the sharp claws of the owl. The tail is drooping, flush with the foot, so that the jade figure can stand steadily.
This jade owl has an amber-colored gemstone texture, and the surface is warm and patinated. The lines of the whole body are grand and smooth, and it is completed in one go. The hollowing process is meticulous, and the polishing is fine. It is definitely made by the top jade craftsmen. It is an extremely rare small round sculpture.
