This square jade pendant is exquisitely sized (33 mm long, 8 mm thick) and has a regular shape. It is made of superior white jade, with a mature and lustrous texture, a restrained sheen, and a gentle, oily sheen. Over time, it has developed a naturally thick patina. Slight natural yellowish-brown inclusions are visible along some edges, further enhancing its antique charm.
This pendant is "fully decorated on both sides," with identical patterns on both sides, showcasing intricate and meticulous craftsmanship. A round hole is located in the center of the jade pendant, surrounded by a fine and precise rope pattern, demonstrating the artisan's exceptional skill.
The main decorative motif outside the perforated rim is a densely arranged and flowing "ruyi cloud pattern" (which can also be seen as an evolution of grain or reed patterns). The pattern is carved using a shallow relief technique; the cloud patterns are full and symmetrical, swirling and interconnected, full of dynamism and a sense of order. This is an extremely classic and high-level decorative theme on jade artifacts from the Warring States period to the Han dynasty. The outer edge of the jade pendant is not straight, but rather has corresponding concave and convex shapes (teeth) following the layout of the pattern, making the object's form more vivid.
The jade is of excellent quality, the carving is exquisite, the patterns are elegant, and the style is simple and ancient. It has distinct characteristics of jade artifacts from the Warring States and Han Dynasties, and is truly a high-level jade carving masterpiece.
